11-FEB/10 @ the Good Ship, Kilburn

Gigs are often troubled with mechanical malfunctions and this gig was no exception. It was strange. When we went at it full pelt, all we could hear were our own individual instruments- seriously. The monitors did not work too well either, so we were straining to hear what we were playing. It was a bizarre gig - most bizarre that hardly anyone could hear the guitar off-stage or even on-stage... but the volume was MAXED out!

seriously strange gig, but wonderful. There were a handful of people down. I feel bad for the 405 boys (promoters) who put on the gig, but they told me that they felt this venue has been cursed for them - the audience wasn't 250+ strong like Proud, hell it wasn't even 25+ strong, but those that were there joined us in a sort-of unified catharsis...

6&7-FEB/10 @ Proud Galleries & Luminaire

It's been a while since we smashed our instruments around to a room full of other people...
Boy does it feel good :)

So...

-- // Proud Galleries, Camden \\ --

Too cool & Trendy for us - Definitely.
But... such a nice place to play - really nice - Good sound system, BIG rooms, stables, photos on the walls, Gallery Space etc. etc.

Major downside: From a band point of view it's a logistical nightmare. Nowhere to park (locally everything is Max stay 2 hours until 11PM?!?!?), no convenient loading and/or unloading... We had to drag our equipment (Drums, Keyboards, Guitars, Amps and all) through a crowded club at MIDNIGHT ONLY, down the cobbled street, through and around barriers to our little van parked 5 minutes away. Hell, we don't mind too much - we're all still sore, but the bouncers made our life more difficult than it had to be... seriously. Our saving grace was the promoter 'Ilana'. Lovely lady who put us on and made sure we had the smoothest time we could whilst we were there. You rule!

-- // EyeSeeSound Session @ Luminaire, Kilburn \\ --

Having made a partial recovery from the previous night antics we jumped back into the van and headed to Kilburn for a live video session with
-->EyeSeeSound<-- CLICK
who are a lovely bunch of people who hire out the Luminaire in Kilburn once a month and get bands in that they love too play for them. They record these sessions and put them out online and make DVD's. They chose us for a session and we tried to give it as much as we could - that meant bum notes, a lot of sweat, and us trying not to pick holes in our performance. It'll be rouhg, but it'll be accurate - if you know what i mean. Kieran and Ross did an interview and we're told the session will go live in a couple months time!

Thankyou to ALL that came to Proud. Some people missed it and some people were treated ill by the staff. Not cool. I doubt we'll play there again, unless we can on our own terms. Next up we headline the 405 night at the Good Ship, Kilburn this THURS, then Europe.

2010 - To infinity and beyond? Sure, why not!... but oh so slowly...

Hi. Too much to write in one sitting so i'll filter information over a longer period of time.

(1) Most importantly, we're playing some shows in this New Year. February will be a busy month for us - 2 birthdays and a tour with Gin Panic that takes us through a tiny bit of Europe, a couple London shows and a new live session for 'Eyeseesound.tv'...

(2) We're writing new material. In what format it'll come out has yet to be decided: EP's? Album? Singles? Ringtones? Who knows...

(3) We played a show at the Cocks earlier this month as part of an acoustic night organised by Esther from 'Quiet Choir'. Funnily enough, we wrote the acoustic stuff for THIS very gig. We've realised that the acoustic re-imaginings of Suite(s) are valid in their own right, so we've decided to record them - perhaps a few extras too? - and get them out for your listening pleasure.

(4) Our Album Launch still is fresh in our memory. Will from the 405 came down with a video camera and this is what he captured. Enjoy:

To end the year...

First...

Is it a little redundant to say thank you for all the support we've had over the last year?

There are a few people that really made things happen for us. Paul & Claire, from "A Badge of Friendship", did our PR for the album. It is because of them that we appear to be more famous than we really are (we really aren't). It is because of them that our the sudden rise in attention has almost been a blur. We owe them much and they've become real good friends - and that's the point really, isn't it?

It is a strange thing to have people we don't know talking about our music and giving it marks out of 10. Even more of a surprise is that the response was majority positive, ending with an average of 8 out of 10 in the end of year polls from major publications. We were played on radio, podcasts and features, both nationally and internationally, and we have a now infamous Hounslow Chronicle article. It is a strange thing.

By far, one of the strangest thing was having the album leaked before the release. I thought this only happened to BIG bands. Because of that 'leak', however, our music was picked up in eastern Europe and has taken our music into the ears of people from Ukraine and Russia. A young lady called Tanya (from Ukraine) took it upon herself to translate our Last.fm page into Russian and put it up on the Russian Last.fm page for other non-english speaking people - a real HERO. It is a strange thing.

The gigs have been wonderful - some ok, some REALLY bad, but mostly good ;) - yet we haven't even reached 20. This is something to rectify for next year, and we're starting hardcore. We start the year with a couple of small tours, a couple of London shows - they'll be big ones though! - and we're trying to get some festival dates... Cannabis Cup would be aces!

The acoustic shows were great, and our album launch was fantastic. Nothing quite as scary as playing to family. From the success of this we've decided to record the acoustic stuff and maybe do a small series of acoustic shows? The journey is only just beginning...

So, perhaps it is redundant to say thanks, but we'll say it anyway. We've released our first album and we met some friendly, interesting, sexy, funny and genuinely cool people. I say we do it all again next year, and because of your support, it seems like a good idea. Thankyou all. I say well done.

...to build a studio (part 4)

Back once again.
There isn't much footage left. After this we put up the rest of the plasterboard (2 tonnes of it), varnished the floor, decorated a bit...(?) and then got to work. Without further ado, PART 4 OF:

...to build a studio
- Quod me nutrit me destruit -

Always just for fun.
enjoy

30-OCT/09 @ Cafe De Paris, London & Photos...

It only seems like yesterday that this was just an idea we all; passionately and privately hoped, secretly wondered and worried, would be a good one. Record the songs, Make an Album, Release a single, Make a Video, Play gigs and try play to as many different audiences as possible. So far... so good. A couple tight squeezes. A couple scattered performances. A few injured body parts & equipment - Nothing life-threatening. So why do i feel the way i feel?

Cafe De Paris was wicked. Manic rush through soundcheck helped by the soundguy there - Paul, Cheers!
It's a lush venue. A burlesque club with a deep red velvet bed filled VIP lounge, and an even more private pink cushioned soundproof room...

...nice ^_^

(2) Yesterday we played the Oxjam festival in Leeds! It was a funny gig. Responses were good - and for that we're soo thankful - but from our end, it wasn't as good as we could've made it. STILL, we played hard, made some friends, got lost in the leeds one-way system and built lego toys... I say well done!
